【意味】［ギ］hêmera（日中，日）； ［ラ］-aris（接尾辞）。あるいは前節を［ギ］haima（血）とする解釈も行われている。
原記載に意味は記されていない。「日中」なら生態に，「血」なら翅の赤褐色部分に由来。

原記載「縁部から光をはなつ(radiisque)」（ラ），「暗赤色が各小室にdisk（中室？）に向かって光を放っている」（英）。翅の後縁部から放射状に伸びる赤帯から。
